Pioneers in Public EMS

Founded in 1972, Valley Ambulance Authority (VAA) became the first municipal ambulance authority in the United States. Today, we proudly provide emergency medical services (EMS) and non-emergency medical transportation to:

  • Moon Township

  • Coraopolis Borough

  • Crescent Township

  • Neville Island

  • Designated areas of Pittsburgh International Airport

Locally Governed, Professionally Operated

Each participating municipality appoints representatives to the VAA Board of Directors, ensuring responsive leadership and consistent service oversight across our communities.

What began as a volunteer-based operation has evolved into a highly trained, technology-driven EMS system, staffed by more than 70 dedicated professionalsโ€”including:

  • Paramedics

  • Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)

  • Dispatchers

  • Administrative and support staff

Fleet & Equipment

Our reliable and ready fleet includes:

๐Ÿš‘ 7 Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Ambulances
๐Ÿš 4 Wheelchair-Accessible Transport Vans
๐Ÿš“ 1 Paramedic/Supervisor Response Vehicle

All field staff are certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and complete ongoing, rigorous continuing education to stay on the leading edge of prehospital care.

Every emergency call is staffed by an Advanced Life Support (ALS) crewโ€”consisting of at least one paramedic and one EMTโ€”to ensure skilled, immediate care on scene.
